Alan Cleary
Alan has no time for blow-by-blow curricula vitae chiefly because of a short lull in gainful employment between 1973 and a week last Thursday. Suffice to say, he is past-president of both the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters and was a United Nations commissioner for eight years following the Gulf War.

A true original and the master of timing, Alan has made well over 1,000 after-dinner speeches and has never used the same one-liner on more than about 250 occasions. His ability to sense the mood of an after-dinner audience is second to almost anybody else. He has single-handedly destroyed many a promising social evening, including several to which he was not invited. Furthermore, he needs a much larger dinner jacket than the one he currently sleeps in.

Not surprisingly, because of his boyish charm, he is in very great demand to take young women to posh restaurants and to speak at "professional" dinners, sporting clubs and corporate entertainments of every description. Busy he is. And it's all his fault we have a blame culture.
